Improving Walking: Workshop for Feldenkrais Practitioners & Students in training

In your Feldenkrais™ training you will have explored many of the parts that make up the walking function but you may not have been guided through ATM’s that brought it all together such that you experienced a full walking pattern.

This may be due to the complexity of walking as an action. Students on trainings need time to develop their awareness and skill, to discover a vast array of movement propositions and to go deeply into the experience of other primary patterns of action.

I had a faultless training but it took many years of research and collecting lessons, as well as time to develop as a practitioner before I had a more comprehensive experience of walking.

While there are different ways of walking, efficient walking is organized as a synergy with a distribution of movement and effort through the whole body. The complexity stems from the fact that different types of movement happen on different planes, at different times, sequentially and with moments of synchrony.

This workshop is an ATM only workshop and therefore an immersion into this fascinating subject. Through the journey over the course of a few days you’ll identify elements of movement and patterns that you know and discover others that you have never suspected or encountered. We will combine these patterns such that more complex ones emerge from within your own self which will develop your image and deepen your understanding of this action.

The result may be that it becomes easier for you to identify which aspects of a walking pattern would be the most pertinent to address with a student through ATM or FI. This whole process also brings to light the pleasurable experiences we can have walking and introduces ways to help optimize movement.

This is a delightful workshop suitable for students in the fourth year of training, as well as new and experienced practitioners.

I hope you will join us in the beautiful city of Toulouse to come together as colleagues and to explore and learn through our common passion.

I first discovered Feldenkrais™ in 1984 at the age of 17 when I was studying at the Laban Centre for Movement and dance. There I trained in Contemporary dance, choreography and studied Laban’s movement analysis. I graduated with a degree in Dance theatre and went on to perform with dance companies based in London. I undertook my Feldenkrais™ training in 1996 and since graduating in 2000 have had a successful practice in Toulouse. In 2007, I co-founded the Feldenkrais structure “Movement Refinery”. For the past 26 years I have been fortunate enough to teach ongoing ATM classes and FI which is a credit to my trainers. Sharon Munro
